Dubai: In the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, India will face Australia in the second warm-up match in Dubai today. The match will begin at 3.30 PM (Indian Time). The Men in Blue had defeated England by seven wickets in their first warm-up match at the same venue on Monday.
In the group-stage encounter of the tournament yesterday, Scotland, who shocked Bangladesh in their tournament opener, bagged their second successive victory, after defeating Papua New Guinea by 17 runs at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman. Opting to bat first, Scotland posted 165 for 9 in stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, chasing a target of 166, Papua New Guinea were bowled out for 148 runs in 19.3 overs. With this win, Scotland are now second in Group B with four points from two matches. Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea are bottom with zero points from two games.
In the other qualifier match in Group 'B', Bangladesh defeated hosts Oman by 26 runs in their second match at the same venue.
Choosing to bat, Bangladesh were bundled out for 153 runs. In reply, Oman posted 127 runs for 9 in stipulated 20 overs.
This was a must-win game for Group B favourites Bangladesh to stay alive in the tournament as Oman and Scotland were at the top-two spots in the group. Bangladesh with 2 points are still at the third spot in
the Group B points table.
The matches of the tournament are being played across four venues in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
The Men's T20 World Cup was earlier scheduled to be held in India, but was shifted to the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remains the hosts of the event.
The top four teams from the qualifiers will join India, West Indies, Australia, South Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan, England and New Zealand for Super-12 stage which will begin from 23rd of this month. It will end on 8th of November. The knock-out round of the T20 World Cup will start on 10th of November and the final of the tournament is set to take place on 14th of next month.
India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on 24th of October.
Namibia and Netherlands will lock horns in the Qualifiers of T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi today. The match will begin at 3:30 pm. The Netherlands lost to Ireland by seven wickets while Namibia slumped to a seven-wicket loss at the hands of Sri Lanka in their opening matches.
In the other qualifier of the tournament, Ireland will face Sri Lanka at 7:30 PM at the same venue. The side that wins will move closer to a Super-12 spot.
