Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that he was eagerly waiting for an India vs Pakistan match in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
On Wednesday, November 9, Pakistan beat New Zealand by seven wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground after chasing down 153 with five balls to spare. With the victory, Pakistan also advanced to their first T20 World Cup final since 2009.
The second finalist will be decided after India’s semi-final against Jos Buttler’s England on Thursday, November 10 at the Adelaide Oval. Earlier in October, India and Pakistan locked horns in an absolute thriller in Melbourne.
After the match went right down to the wire, Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 53-ball 82 and helped India get past the target off
the last ball.
“India, we have reached Melbourne and now we are waiting for you. Wish you the best of luck and hope you reach Melbourne. I want an India vs Pakistan final and, once more, they face each other. The whole world is waiting for it,” Shoaib was quoted as saying.
Apart from praising Pakistan, Akhtar also said that the Black Caps misread the pitch and should have opted to field first after winning the toss.
“Well done, Pakistan, well done. Prayers have helped Pakistan reach the final. We have a habit of making comebacks. Pakistan batted brilliantly. New Zealand should have bowled first and they misjudged the pitch,” he added.
The last time Pakistan played in a T20 World Cup final, they won the tournament after beating Sri Lanka.
