Chennai Super Kings managed an unimaginable implosion as they lost another match that they should have won in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Kolkata Knight Riders and Dinesh Karthik were the happy victors at the end of 40 overs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi as they managed 2 points despite posting only 167 on a wicket that was slowing down as the game progressed.
CSK were off to a solid start as Shane Watson continued from where he left a couple of nights ago in Dubai. Watson and Faf du Plessis went after KKR's new-ball bowlers but Shivam Mavi got the in-form Faf du Plessis. But Watson kept the scorecard moving to take CSK to a position of strength even as Ambati Rayudu failed to convert a good start into a big innings.
When Watson departed, CSK needed just 68 from 47 balls. However, CSK managed just 14 runs from over 10 to 15, struggling to score even a single boundary. While MS Dhoni struggled to get going, managing just 11 from 12 balls, Kedar Jadhav was clueless in
the middle as he remained unbeaten on 7 after playing 12 balls.
Andre Russell and Sunil Narine executed their plans wonderfully at the death as Dinesh Karthik marshalled his troops well to pick up 2 crucial points.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Tripathi grabbed the opportunity to open the innings for Kolkata Knight Riders as Dinesh Karthik and the management made a crucial change at the top of the order, dropping Sunil Narine from the opener's spot. Despite losing Shubman Gill early, Tripathi showcased what he is capable of with a fine display of stroke-making.
With 3 sixes and 8 boundaries, Rahul Tripathi played a blinder even as he more established teammates kept walking back to the hut. KKR were crusing at 92 for 2 at the end of the 10-over mark but they managed just 75 runs in the last 10 overs. With the likes of Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan falling cheaply, KKR managed just 40 runs in their last 5 overs but it proved to be more than enough in the end.
