MS Dhoni's 36-ball 47 — his highest score in IPL 2020— failed to take Chennai Super Kings over the line as Sunrisers Hyderabad eked out a seven-run win on Friday in Dubai.

Chasing 165 for victory, CSK were behind the asking rate from the word go as Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis failed to provide a good start for the yellow brigade. The duo struggled to 4 for 1 in 2.3 overs when Watson (1) was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Ambati Rayudu (8), who was making a comeback in the CSK side after 2 matches, added a quick 22 with Faf du Plessis for the second wicket before getting castled by T Natarajan in the 6th over. Faf followed him to the dressing room in the same over after scoring 22 off 19.

Jammu and Kashmir's 3rd IPL cricketer Abdul Samad joined the party as he removed Kedar Jadhav for his maiden wicket for SRH. David Warner took a sharp catch at the extra cover and Jadhav was the fourth Chennai batsman to depart.

Although MS Dhoni walked in at No.5 with 129 runs needed off 84 balls, CSK left themselves with too much to do in the run chase for the third time in succession. This time it was Ravindra Jadeja who waged a lone battle for CSK

as he scored a quickfire fifty off just 35 balls before getting out in the 18th over. Jadeja got support from MS Dhoni as both added 72 runs for the fifth wicket to bring Chennai back in the chase.

Earlier, Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma led the recovery for Sunrisers Hyderabad and managed to finish the innings on a high with the team reaching 164 for 5 in 20 overs after opting to bat first.

Garg (51*) and Abhishek (31) raised a 77-run stand for the fifth wicket as SRH collected 53 runs in the last four overs to make it a contest. CSK's poor fielding towards the end helped SRH continue with the momentum as they dropped Abhishek twice.

Deepak Chahar (2/31) troubled the SRH batsmen with his swinging deliveries as Sam Curran also showed control. Chahar was rewarded for his effort when he deceived Jonny Bairstow (0) with an in-swing ball that uprooted his stumps.

Manish Pandey (29) was in good touch as he timed the ball nicely when pitched up and did not hesitate to play lofted shots while Warner worked the ball around. Warner then fell thanks to a brilliant effort from Faf du Plessis at the boundary and Williamson was run out off the very next ball.
