Bengaluru: Shikhar Dhawan became the first player to be sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction on Saturday in Bengaluru. The senior India opener, who played for Delhi Capitals in the previous season, was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 8.25 crore.
There was a bidding war for Dhawan who was pursued by Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Dhawan had a base price of Rs 2 crore and Rajasthan began the bidding for the opener.
Dhawan, who is one of the most consistent players in the IPL history with 5784 runs in 192 matches, was pursued by Delhi and Punjab after Rajasthan pulled out of the race. Eventually, Punjab got the India opener who is likely to pair with Mayank
Agarwal at the top for the Punjab franchise.

As many as 10 players, including Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami and Shikhar Dhawan, were part of the 10 players who were listed as marquee stars for the IPL 2022 auction. Each of them have their base price at Rs 2 crore.
KL Rahul is the most expensive player ahead of IPL 2022 so far as the India vice-captain was picked in draft by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 17 crore.
