MS Dhoni had led Chennai Super Kings to four IPL titles but he had decided to step down as captain in a shock announcement before the first match of IPL 2022. Ravindra Jadeja had been handed over the captaincy but often on the field, it was Dhoni who seemed to be making the calls and changing field placements.
After the change in leadership, Ravindra Jadeja's form had taken a dip. MS Dhoni, meanwhile, has looked in good touch with the bat and has been pretty sharp behind the wickets.
An official statement from CSK said Jadeja handed the captaincy back to MS Dhoni to focus on his game. In the IPL, Dhoni has been synonymous with the Super Kings,
leading them to 4 title triumphs. After a poor season in 2020, MS Dhoni endured criticism before storming back to win the IPL in 2021.
Notably, Jadeja has been far from impressive in the tournament during his stint as CSK captain. He scored just 112 runs in 92 balls at a strike rate of 121.7 with a boundary every 8.3 balls and also took five wickets in eight innings at an economy rate of 8.19.
"Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish the captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game & has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest & to allow Jadeja to focus on his game," the statement read.
