The auction for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to take place on December 23 in Kochi. Each team will have an additional purse of INR 5 crores (approx. US $607,000) apart from that money that they will have from player releases and money left from their previous mega auction that took place earlier this year.

Among the 10 teams that took part in the previous edition of the tournament, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have the highest purse of INR 3.45 crores. Lucknow Super Giants, captained by KL Rahul, had exhausted their entire purse.

Kolkata Knight Riders – 0.45 crores, Rajasthan Royals – 0.95 crores, Royal Challengers Bangalore – 1.55 crores, and Chennai Super Kings – 2.95 crores are the remaining purse of the teams.

Gujarat Titans, who won their maiden title after beating the Royals in the final, have a purse

of 0.15 crores. Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad had 0.10 crores left in their purse.

The deadline for submitting the list of retained and released players is November 15 and the pool of players for the auction is expected to be finalised by the first week of December.

Among the participating teams last time around, the Super Giants, Capitals and Kings bought only seven overseas players. Hence, they have a chance to pick an additional foreign player and fill in the eighth slot.

Moreover, six franchises had to bring in replacement players for various reasons. Those teams can either retain the replacement player or the original player or both.

In the auction, teams will only have a chance to make some valuable additions to their squads, unlike last time when it was about building a team from scratch.
