Chennai Super Kings (CSK), on Sunday, March 19, named South Africa fast bowler Sisanda Magala as a replacement for New Zealand speedster Kyle Jamieson, who is yet to fully recover from an everlasting back injury. Magala, who has played only 4 T20Is for the Proteas, will join the four-time IPL champions at his price of INR 50 lakhs.

Jamieson was bought by the MS Dhoni-led franchise for a price of INR 1 crore. The pacer was picked in New Zealand’s Test squad for the two-match Test series against England, but was ruled out because of injury.

“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa pacer Sisanda Magala as a replacement for New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023,” an official IPL statement read.

“Jamieson, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, was bought by the franchise for

INR 1 Crore.”

“His replacement, Magala, has rich experience in the shortest format of the game. Though he has played just 4 T20Is for South Africa, Magala has a reputation of being a regular wicket-taker in domestic T20 games over the years. He will join CSK at his base price of INR 50 Lakh,” the statement added.

Magala has played 127 T20s in which he has scored 735 runs with two half-centuries and picked up 136 wickets with two five-wicket hauls to show for his efforts.

Magala was also a part of the SA20 winning Sunrisers Eastern Cape squad, captained by Aiden Markram. The 32-year-old picked up 14 wickets from 12 matches in the tournament at an economy rate of 8.68.

Magala also won the Player of the Match award when South Africa beat England by 27 runs in an ODI back in January at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
