MS Dhoni scripted Indian Premier League history on Monday, May 29 as he became the first man in the tournament history to play 250 matches. Dhoni walked up for the toss in the IPL 2023 final on the Reserve Day to loud cheers from the Narendra Modi Stadium as Chennai Super Kings took to Gujarat Titans in the summit clash.
The final, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday, was postponed to Monday due to consistent rain in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The two teams, the broadcasters and the fans returned to the iconic stadium for the big final as the wet weather did not dampen the hype around it.
MS Dhoni was greeted by loud cheers when he walked into the middle to have a feel of the conditions in his training kit. The CSK captain and his good friend, Haridk Pandya, were at
the toss for the big final, which was also his 11th.
MS Dhoni also became the first player to play 11 finals in IPL history - 10th with Chennai Super Kings and 1 with Rising Pune SuperGiant. Notably, Dhoni played under Steve Smith in the IPL 2017 final.
