Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate in Gujarat Titans' thrilling last-over win over Punjab Kings in Mohali in an IPL 2023 match on Thursday, April 13. It was the first over-rate offense from Gujarat Titans in the new season.
Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to field and restricted Punjab Kings to 153 for 8 in 20 overs. Mohit Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 18 on his return to the IPL after 3 years. However, Gujarat were not able to complete their quota of 20 overs in the stipulated time.
The IPL aims to finish a match in 3 hours and 20 minutes but over-rate violations has been commonplace in the new season.
"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Pandya
was fined Rs. 12 lakh," an IPL media advisory said on Friday.
Gujarat TItans recovered from their heartbreaking defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders after Rinku Singh's last-over heroics against Yash Dayal. The left-arm pacer was dropped for their clash in Mohali and Gujarat came up with an improved performance with the ball.
Gujarat rode on a match-winning 67 from Shubman Gill to gun down 154 and seal their 3rd win of the IPL 2023 season. The match went to the final over and it needed a Rahul Tewatia finish when the equation came down to 5 from 2 balls.
Gujarat Titans moved to the 3rd spot with 3 wins in 4 matches and are only behind Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants in the 10-team points table.
Gujarat next face Rajasthan Royals in a repeat of last year's final on April 16.
