MS Dhoni was felicitated by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday, April 12 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
N Srinivasan, the managing director of India Cements and owner of the CSK franchise, handed a memento to Dhoni, who is set to lead the IPL team for the 200th time.
Back in 2008, Dhoni was named as the skipper of the Yellow Army and since then CSK have stuck with him. Back in the year 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the captain before Dhoni got back the leadership mantle.
CSK, in the meantime, opted to field first after winning the toss. Moeen Ali and Maheesh Theekshana have come in place of Mitchell
Santner and Dwaine Pretorius.
The Super Kings started their campaign with a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
They registered their first win after beating KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs at Chepauk. Thereafter, they beat five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets.
The Super Kings, in the meantime, are yet to lose to the Royals since the inaugural edition back in 2008. CSK have won the IPL as many as four times, in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. Every other time, Dhoni led the team from the front.
Last time around, they failed to advance to the playoffs and will want to make amends.
