Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis reached 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League while batting against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, 14 May. Du Plessis also became the first player to cross 600 runs in the ongoing edition of the tournament.
The former SA captain continued his good run with the bat and anchored the innings in a sluggish pitch at Jaipur. While his opening partner Virat Kohli got out early in the game, du Plessis combined with Maxwell to rebuild the innings. At the time of writing, Faf had scored 42* off 37 balls with RCB at 86/1 after playing 12 overs in the first innings.
So far, du Plessis has hit six half-centuries this season and has batted at a strike rate of 157.81. The batter has led the Orange Cap race throughout the season, although players like Yashasvi
Jaiswal are quickly catching on to the RCB batter in the final stretch of the tournament.
The match against Rajasthan Royals is Faf du Plessis' 128 game in the Indian Premier League. The former South Africa captain arrived to Bangalore back in 2022 season and took over as a leader after Virat Kohli decided to step down. Before that Faf had found success as an opener in Chennai Super Kings where he partnered with Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain of the team.
This season, Faf du Plessis with Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell has scored the majority of the runs for RCB. With the team being heavy at the top, du Plessis has taken the onus on himself to deliver. The South Africa batter was injured for a fair amount of time and had to play as an Impact Player where Virat Kohli stood in as the captain of the franchise.
