Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav fell for a golden duck while playing against Delhi Capitals in the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, 11 April. Yadav, who has struggled in the recent times, got out to Mukesh Yadav in the final ball of the 16th over, while chasing 173 runs against Delhi Capitals.
Yadav's nightmare continued from his Australia ODI series, where he got out for three back-to-back golden ducks, for the first time of his career. Yadav, one of the most prolific batters for India in the recent past was troubled by the pace of Mitchell Starc in the series, who dismissed him with identical deliveries that came into the batter after falling around the off-stump region.
On the day, Yadav pulled a short ball from Mukesh Kumar, his go-to weapon in T20 cricket, but failed to connect the ball cleanly. Kuldeep Yadav, stationed at fine leg completed a clean catch under pressure and brought Delhi back in the game.
Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians came out all
guns blazing in the second innings of the match while chasing 173 runs. Rohit Sharma gave the side a great start, combining with Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma. Mumbai looked like they were cruising towards a victory before the final 5 overs of the game, but Mukesh Kumar's back-to-back wickets put them in the back foot. After getting hit for 16 runs in his first four balls, Kumar took 2 wickets in his final 2 balls, making things incredibly difficult for Mumbai.
This was Suryakumar's fourth duck from his last 6 matches. The batter did not perform according to the expectations his first two matches in the Indian Premier League. He scored 15 and 1 from the first two matches of the tournament. Mumbai Indians pulled off a tough win against Delhi Capitals on the night, in the final ball of the game. Needing 2 runs in the final ball, Tim David hit the ball to David Warner at long off and hustled to complete 2 runs with a huge dive at the striker's end.
Mumbai won the game by 6 wickets.
