Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal scripted a massive record in the Indian Premier League on Thursday, May 11 as he became the leading wicket-taker in the history of the tournament. Chahal went past former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who had finished his IPL career with 183 wickets.

Yuzvendra Chahal achieved the milestone in his 143rd match in the IPL, playing for Rajasthan Royals in an IPL 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens. Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana became Chahal's special victim on Sunday as the leg-spinner got the left-hander caught at deep square leg.

Chahal, who moved to Rajasthan Royals in 2022 after spending successful years at Royal Challengers Bangalore, won the Purple Cap award for the leading wicket-taker in his maiden stint with the Royals, scalping 27 wickets. The India leg-spinner continued from where he left last season, leading the Royals' bowling attack in 2023, picking up 17 wickets in 11 matches.

The last time an Indian bowler was on top of the wicket-takers' list was when Amit Mishra led the charts in 2013. Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo dominated the all-time

charts over the last decade.

MOST WICKETS IN IPL
Yuzvendra Chahal - 184 in 143* matches
Dwayne Bravo - 183 in 161 matches
Piyush Chawla - 174 in 176 matches
Amit Mishra - 172 in 160 matches
R Ashwin - 171 in 196* matches
Lasith Malinga - 170 in 122 matches

Yuzvendra Chahal went level with Dwayne Bravo in Rajasthan Royals' defeat to SunRIsers Hyderabad on May 7 in Hyderabad. Chahal picked up 4 wickets to take his tally from 179 to 183 in a sensational spell which ended in vain.

Chahal has a 5-wicket haul, a hat-trick and as many as 6 4-wicket hauls in IPL 2023.

While Chaha's performances for the Royals have been nothing short of stunning, the leg-spinner thrived under Virat Kohli's captaincy for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Chahal, who began his career with Mumbai Indians in 2013, moved to RCB in 2014 and spent 8 years with the former finalists.

139 of Chahal's 184 wickets came for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 113 matches but the leg-spinner was not retained by RCB ahed of the mega auction last year.
