Gujarat hammered Hyderabad to clinch their second win in the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat defeated Hyderabad by 7 wickets on Sunday, 31 March, in the day game. Mohit Sharma, David Miller and Afghan spin-twins - Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad - were the stars on the day as Gujarat pulled off a gritty win on a sluggish pitch at their home venue.

After restricting SRH for 162 runs in the first innings, David Miller remained calm in the chase and helped the team win with 7 wickets and 5 balls in hand. Miller remained unbeaten at 44 off 27 balls to see off a late fight from SRH in the second innings. Gujarat batting unit put in a team effort with Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, Sai Sudharsan and Miller, all contributing to the chase. Neither of the batters were able to get a fifty on a pitch that looked difficult to bat on in both innings of the game.

Credit must be given to

the GT bowlers for setting up the win, as they restricted the SRH batting line-up to just 162 runs, only days after they had hit a record total of 277 runs. SRH were stifled throughout the first innings, failing to build a single partnership over fifty runs. In fact, SRH's best partnership came late in the innings when Shahbaz Ahmed and Abdul Samad combined to hit 45 off just 28 balls.

The Ahmedabad pitch has been two-paced in the two matches against Mumbai and Hyderabad. In the day game on Sunday, the struggle for the batters was clear as both teams found it difficult to score consistently throughout the match. The key difference between the two sides was probably the fact that David Miller dug deep in the second innings of the match and targetted Mayank Markande as late as the 16th over in the second innings of the game. Miller at that time was batting at 13 off 16 balls and managed to finish with a stellar knock of 44* off just 27 balls.
