Shreyas Iyer’s KKR cemented their berth in the top 2 after rain had the last laugh in their IPL 2024 clash against GT on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Rain played hide and seek throughout, but the 45000 fans did not leave the venue, hoping for the game to start. 10:56 PM was the cut-off time for a 5-over match, and the groundsmen tried their hearts out, but at around 10:40 PM, the officials called the match off.
The Titans became the third team to get knocked out of the competition after MI and PBKS. The Knights, in the meantime, held on to their top spot
with 19 points and a net run rate of +1.428 thanks to wins in 9 out of 13 games. KKR will now take part in Qualifier 1 to be held on May 21 in Ahmedabad. Earlier, the Knights sealed their playoff berth following their 18-run win over MI.
Back in 2012 and 2014, when KKR finished in the top 2, they went on to win the title. This time around, they have a chance to finish atop the table if they beat Sanju Samson’s Royals in their last league game on Sunday, May 19 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The return of Gautam Gambhir to their setup has worked wonders for them until now.
