Lucknow Super Giants roped in former India spinner Sridharan Sriram as the assistant coach for Indian Premier League 2024. Sriram will join Justin Langer, who was appointed as the head coach of the KL Rahul-led side earlier in the year.
Gautam Gambhir will continue to remain as the mentor of the Lucknow franchise in IPL 2024. Notably, LSG and Andy Flower parted ways after IPL 2023 following which the former Zimbabwe cricketer joined Royal Challengers Bangalore as their head coach.
LSG have a strong support staff group in place as they also have Vijay Dahiya, Pravin Tambe and the South African duo of Morne Morkel and Jonty Rhodes as assistant coaches for IPL 2024.
Sriram's coaching journey is marked by significant stints with various cricket teams. He has previously worked with the Bangladesh men's national T20 team, leading them to secure two remarkable victories in the Super-12s of the T20 World Cup. His tenure with the
Australian men's team was also noteworthy, where he played a pivotal role in their success at the T20 World Cup and the Ashes during the 2021-22 season. In addition, Sriram has been involved with the IPL, working as an assistant coach specializing in batting and spin bowling for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Interestingly, Sriram has a strong professional association with Langer. The duo had previously worked together during their tenure with the Australian men's team.
"Sriram has also earned the prestigious distinction of an ECB Level-3 “Head Coach” in 2008. RPSG Sports and Lucknow Super Giants are thrilled to welcome the seasoned coach and looking forward to an exciting journey ahead!" LSG said in a statement.
Sriram played 8 ODIs for India between 2000 and 2004 and played close to 200 domestic matches. Sriram scored over 13,500 runs in domestic cricket, averaging over 50 in first-class cricket and picked up 200 wickets.
