Indian Premier League franchise, RCB, rebranded themselves as Royal Challengers Bengaluru during their highly anticipated RCB Unbox event on March 19, 2024. The RCB Unbox event, held at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, celebrated the achievements of both the men's and women's teams but also introduced a pivotal rebranding initiative for the franchise.
18 years after the capital city of Karnataka was officially renamed from Bangalore to Bengaluru, RCB have always gone for the local connect, making the change in their franchise name. At the Unbox event, RCB unveiled their new jersey for the IPL
2024 season with a red and blue flavour.
Virat Kohli, captain Faf du Plessis and victorious Women's Premier League captain Smriti Mandhana were at the jersey unveiling program during the RCB Unbox event.
This rebranding effort aligns with the city's official renaming in 2014 and places RCB alongside other IPL teams that have undergone similar transformations, such as Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. The decision to adopt 'Bengaluru'—the city's local Kannada language name—reflects a deeper connection with the team's roots and its commitment to embracing local culture and identity.
