Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 24 lakh for an over-rate offence during Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 27 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

It was Pant’s second offence after he was fined Rs 12 lakh following LSG’s match against MI earlier this month at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The Super Giants lost to the five-time champions by 54 runs.

"As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs," the IPL said in a release.

"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is

lesser."

The Super Giants became the second team to be fined twice, after the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Back in March, Riyan Parag had copped a fine of Rs 12 lakh after his first over-rate offence against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati.

Then Samson was fined Rs 25 lakh after RR’s match against the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday, April 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

As far as Pant is concerned, he has had a torrid time with the bat in hand. In 10 games, the left-handed batter has scored only 110 runs at an average of 12.22 and a strike-rate of 98.21 with a top score of 63 to his name.

The Super Giants are in a precarious position in their road to qualifying for the playoffs. After losing to MI, they were placed sixth with 10 points and a net run rate of -0.325 thanks to wins in five out of 10 matches.
