Veteran Indian pacer Ishant Sharma’s IPL 2020 journey was cut significantly short as he was ruled out of the entire tournament by the 2nd week of October due to a muscle tear. Consequently, Sharma was also ruled out of the 4-match Test series, that is currently underway, in Australia.
However, the 32-year-old is likely to return to professional cricket as the DDCA have named him the 42-member squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is also a part of the said probables list for the domestic T20 tournament in January.
While Sharma’s last appearance was in the IPL 2020
game between the Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in September, Dhawan featured in the recently concluded ODIs and T20I series in Australia. Delhi have named Dhawan as the leader of the 40-plus probables squad for Delhi.
Delhi’s selection committee, on Saturday, named a jumbo squad for Mushtaq Ali that also includes Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand, Kolkata Knight Riders’ Nitish Rana, Pawan Suyal and Manan Sharma. The selection panel met on Friday, December 25, to pick the squad. All players will report to head coach Rajkumar Sharma, who joined office this week, and his deputy Gursharan Singh.
