Jofra Archer will undergo surgery to his right hand on Monday (March 29), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Saturday. The fast bowler had a scan and following a review by the medical team, a procedure has been scheduled for Monday.

Archer returned home this week after the board announced that the pacer would miss the ODI series, that is currently underway, in India. It is still unclear whether Archer will be available to play for the Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL edition, starting on April 9.

“He has also had a further injection for the right elbow injury that had seen him declared unfit for selection for the current ODI series versus India. The procedure on Jofra’s hand will take place on Monday 29 March so he can recover

during the planned break following his elbow injection,” ECB said in a statement on their official website.

“Jofra suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning at his home in January shortly before flying to India to prepare for the Test series. The injury was managed by the ECB’s medical team through the tour and it did not impact on his availability.

Further investigation and a specialist opinion was sought upon his return to the UK and, in conjunction with the ECB medical panel, it has been decided that surgery is the best option to manage his injury in the longer term,” the statement added.

The three-match ODI series between India and England is currently level at 1-1 and the decider 3rd ODI will be played on Sunday, March 28, in Pune.
