Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has been warned and fined 50 percent of his match fee following an ugly on-field spat with Yusuf Pathan in the Legends League Cricket match between India Capitals and Bhilwara Kings on Sunday, October 2 in Jodhpur.
Legends League Cricket commissioner Ravi Shastri decided to fine Mitchell Johnson after a disciplinary committee was formed by the tournament organisers to investigate the incident. An official warning was also sent to Mitchell Johnson, who is plying his trade for the India Capitals.
“We are here to promote serious and competitive cricket through this league. What happened yesterday on the ground during the qualifier match shouldn’t have happened. We have closely gone through the video multiple times before coming to any conclusion. I hope everyone gets a clear message that the spirit of the game is of prime importance and such things won’t get repeated in this league,” said Raman Raheja, CEO and Co-Founder of Legends League
Cricket.
Mitchell Johnson was involved in a heated verbal exchange with Yusuf Pathan during the Bhilwara Kings innings and the Australian fast bowler was also seen pushing the former India all-rounder away. The two players were involved in a heated argument so much so that the umpires had to intervene and calm things down.
Yusuf Pathan was in fine form for the Bhilwara Kings as he hit 48 from just 24 balls, smashing 4 sixes and 3 boundaries. On the other hand, Johnson was expensive as he leaked as many as 51 runs and picked up 2 wickets in his 4 overs.
Eventually, it was Johnson who got the wicket of Pathan as the Kings posted 226 for 4 in their quota of 20 overs.
India Capitals came up with a stunning chase as Ross Taylor hit 84 from just 39 balls and Ashley Nurse hit 60 from just 28 balls. India Capitals gunned down the target with 3 balls to spare and book a place in the final.
Bhilwara Kings will take on Gujarat Giants in the final playoffs match to decide the 2nd finalist.
