KL Rahul, on Saturday, April 15, became the fastest batter to 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batter achieved the feat in the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Rahul broke the record of Chris Gayle, who got to the milestone in 112 innings back in March 2019. Rahul achieved the feat in only his 105th innings in the IPL. Rahul also broke Virat Kohli’s record of the fastest Indian batter to 4000 IPL runs. Kohli held the record earlier, having reached the milestone in 128 innings.
Rahul also became the second-fastest batter to score 2000 IPL runs as captain in only
47 innings. David Warner holds the record, having got to the feat in 46 innings. Rahul, in fact, is the only batter with over 2000 runs as captain in the IPL with an average in excess of 50.
Moreover, Rahul became the 14th batter to get to the 4000-run mark in the IPL. The other 13 batters are Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni, Chris Gayle, Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, Ambati Rayudu, Gautam Gambhir and Ajinkya Rahane.
As far as Rahul is concerned, he has been an integral part of the LSG setup for a couple of seasons now. The right-handed batter has also played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL.
