India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant opened up on his harrowing experience during the car crash he suffered in 2022.
In December 2022, Pant experienced a harrowing car accident while driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee. The 25-year-old was alone when he reportedly dozed off at the wheel, leading his Mercedes to collide with a road divider and subsequently catch fire. Local passersby, including a bus driver, rushed to his aid, and he was transported to a hospital in Roorkee before being moved to Max Hospital in Dehradun for further treatment.
Pant sustained multiple injuries, including cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, and abrasions on his back. The wicketkeeper would undergo surgery to repair his injuries.
Speaking on Star Sports, Pant went into details just after the crash. The Indian
wicketkeeper said that his right leg was severly dislocated and it had to be put back in its place.
Pant went on to say that it was a close call for him as there was a chance of his leg getting amputated had there been nerve damage or any more serious injuries. The 26-year-old said that was the first time he felt scared as his mind was otherwise occupied with the pain that he was undergoing at the time.
"My right leg was severly dislocated and it was put back in its place. I asked someone for help, to bring the leg back to its place. That time I fixed it back into the slot."
"If there was nerve damage or any more serious injuries, we might have had to amputate my leg. That's when I got very scared."
"Before that I couldn't feel fear, because I was in pain and my whole thought was about it," said Pant.
