Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to be dismissed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 when he was run out by Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli for 19 in the season opener at Chepauk.

Chris Lynn mistimed the cut in between two fielders at cover and cover-point and called for a single before backing off as Rohit kept running. Virat, who was standing at the covers, swooped in on the ball and nailed a perfect throw to Yuzvendra Chahal who whipped the bails off in no time. Rohit Sharma, who was starting to look good after hitting the first six of IPL 2021 in the same over, was visibly frustrated after the mix-up.

After this unfortunate dismissal, Rohit Sharma set an unwanted record during the first match of

the IPL 2021 against RCB on Friday as he has now been involved in most runouts in IPL — 36 (11 times himself out, 25 times partners out).

RCB handed three debuts as Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson, and young Indian batsman Rajat Patidar were named in the playing XI, along with Dan Christian while Devdutt Padikkal missed out. Mumbai Indians also handed debuts to Australia opener Chris Lynn and South Africa pacer Marco Jensen.

"Would've fielded first as well. But as a team, we've batted well over the years. Nothing different for us. Bat well in the powerplay and set the game up for the big hitters. The entire square has been changed. Recently played a couple of Tests," Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said.
