Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson was named as the head coach of Pakistan Super League side, Islamabad United on Wednesday, November 8. Hesson joins the PSL for the first time since parting ways with Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier in the year after the Faf du Plessis-led side finished 6th, failing to make it to the playoffs of the Indian Premier League.

Mike Hesson replaces Azhar Mahmood as the head coach of Islamabad United, who are two-time champions of the PSL. Islamabad are one of the most successful sides with 2 titles in the first three editions of the PSL. Late Australian cricketer Dean Jones was an inspirational coach for Islamabad but they have not been able to establish a long working relationship with any of his

successors.

Islamabad United, who have failed to make the PSL final since winning the title in 2018, will hope Mike Hesson can produce the goods after having had successful stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

"I have heard a great deal about the quality of cricket in the PSL, and I am delighted to be part of Islamabad United. The professional, modern, and dimagshe approach associated with the franchise resonates strongly with me, I am also impressed with ISLU's strategy built around the principle of 4Es - Excellence, Empowerment, Education and Environment. I look forward to working with the talented players and staff to build a successful team and deliver exciting cricket for the fans," Hesson said in a statement from Islamabad United.
