Former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj said that she hasn’t ruled out the chance of taking part in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL). Earlier this year, Mithali retired from all forms of cricket after India failed to advance to the semi-final of the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand.
She was also rested from the Women’s T20 Challenge in 2022, where she played two seasons for the Velocity. All-rounder Deepti Sharma captained them instead in the previous season.
"I'm keeping that option open. I've not yet decided. There are a few more months to go before the women's IPL happens. It would be lovely to be part of
the first edition of the women's IPL," Mithali was quoted as saying.
The Women’s T20 Challenge started back in 2018 with a one-off match between Trailblazers and Supernovas at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The game took place prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs.
From there on, talks about the Women’s IPL have been doing the rounds. A number of foreign players have spoken in favour of the tournament over the time period.
Mithali, who surpassed England’s Charlotte Edwards as the leading WODI run-scorer back in 2017, also talked about recovering from Covid-19 and working on promotions of his biopic.
