Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was witnessed hitting some monstrous sixes while facing both spinners and pacers in what appeared to be an intra-squad simulated session in a video clip shared by the CSK franchise on Twitter.
Fans are eagerly looking forward to Dhoni's appearance in the IPL 2023, as the former Indian cricketer continues to train for the T20 event. The IPL is the only platform where Dhoni can be seen in full action, as the legendary wicketkeeper-batter announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020.
The world champion will play the first IPL match in Chennai in three years due to COVID-19 restrictions, and fans are understandably excited. Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden spoke on Star Sports following the announcement of the IPL 2023 schedule about the reception Dhoni will receive when he walks onto the field at Chepauk for the IPL 2023.
"It will be an amazing moment. I think last year, we were all under the impression that will MSD come back again. At the
close of the IPL season, he made that huge comment to say that he would be back. Now, what that means for all that Yellow Army is that Chennai suddenly galvanized a tad around the superior leader, who has done it for so long. This will, most certainly, I think, be the close of his IPL career. So, those few games at the start are not only going to be key for the fans, his performance is also going to be key for CSK this season," Hayden said.
This is expected to be MS Dhoni's final season as an Indian Premier League player. Dhoni stated in the previous edition of the IPL that he would like to travel around the country and say goodbye to fans during the IPL season. Last year, Dhoni's long-time deputy Ravindra Jadeja was named captain of the Chennai Super Kings, but the decision was reversed halfway through the season.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is set to begin on March 31 and end on May 28. The schedule and venues for the group stage matches have been announced, but the locations for the playoffs have yet to be determined.
