Mumbai Indians have created history in their Indian Premier League with their win over Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede on Sunday, April 27. Led by a stellar all-around effort, MI steamrolled LSG by 54 runs to bag their fifth consecutive win in IPL 2025.
Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav put up strong batting performances, while Jasprit Bumrah and Co. starred with the ball as MI registered a big win over LSG. MI have now won their last five games in a row. This shoots them up from the fifth spot in the points table to the second spot. Meanwhile, LSG have now lost three of their last four IPL matches.
This is a record-breaking win for MI in the IPL. They have become the first team in the history of the tournament to win 150 matches in the tournament.
Most wins for a team in IPL history:
1 - Mumbai Indians: 150 wins
2 - Chennai Super Kings: 140 wins
3 - Kolkata Knight Riders: 134 wins
4 - Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 129 wins
5 - Delhi Capitals: 121 wins
Rickelton, Suryakumar, Naman Dhir and debutant Corbin Bosch put up strong performances with the bat. Rickelton helped MI get off to a strong start despite losing
Rohit Sharma for 12. The South African opener slammed 58 from 32 balls to help MI set a good initiation before SKY took the baton.
The India T20 captain SKY unleashed his strokes extremely well and carried MI in the middle stage. His 28-ball 54-run knock dented LSG's spin and middle-over game. SKY also scaled the milestone of 4000 runs in IPL during his knock and he has now become the fastest Indian to reach the feat (in terms of balls taken). He took only 2714 balls to get to the mark. Meanwhile, Naman and Bosch helped MI end well and go over 200 with ease.
The bowlers complimented the batters extremely well with Bumah removing Aiden Markram in the third over. With left-hander Nicholas Pporamn in the middle, MI introduced Will Jacks, and the England all-rounder got the prized wicket of Pooran in the seventh over. He then got Rishabh Pant caught in the same over and LSG were then playing catch-up after the loss of three wickets.
David Miller and Ayush Badoni kept LSG hanging in but the required rate was making it a very tough task for LSG before Trent Boult got Badoni for 35 and then Bumrah took three in an over to potentially kill the game. The formalities were completed on the last ball of the 20th over when Boult dismissed Digvesh Singh Rathi to take MI home.
