England men's team national selector Luke Wright has confirmed that Jofra Archer will be traveling with the World Cup squad as a reserve.
Archer's career has been plagued by fitness issues over the past few months. He has been battling a recurring stress fracture to his right elbow, which has caused him to miss a third consecutive summer and a second successive Ashes series. The injury also cut short his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Mumbai Indians. Despite these setbacks, Archer has shown resilience and determination, undergoing rehabilitation with the England and Sussex medical teams to manage his injury.
In the recent past, Archer's fitness troubles have led to speculation about his ability to participate in major tournaments. However, despite not being included in England's final 15-player World Cup squad due to his ongoing elbow injury, Archer was confirmed as a reserve player for the team. England national selector Luke Wright confirmed that Archer would travel with the squad, indicating that he
could be called upon if injuries occur during the tournament.
Wright said that it is best for the pacer to travel with the World Cup squad and work on his rehab.
"The best thing for Jofra is to travel with the team and keep working with his rehab and being around the physios and the team. We are doing all we can to get him ready to be as good as he can be.
"If there was an injury he might be able to replace at the back end of the tournament, but obviously we are still working on his fitness day-by-day and we'll have to keep accessing that," said Wright in an official statement by ECB.
England announced their World Cup squad on Sunday, September 17 with Jason Roy being omitted and Harry Brook being taken in his place.
