Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Sourav Ganguly a speedy recovery while he spoke to the former India captain via a phone call on Sunday. PM Modi enquired about Ganguly's heath after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president underwent angioplasty after suffering a mild heart attack on Saturday.
PM Modi spoke to Sourav Ganguly's wife Dona before the conversation with the former cricketer. Ganguly was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after he complained of chest pain, heaviness of head, vomitting and a spell of dizziness while working out on Saturday.
Ganguly was exercising on his treadmill at 11 am when he started feeling discomfort in his chest and was immediately rushed to the Woodlands hospital in Kolkata. The hospital said tests showed he had suffered a mild heart attack and the BCCI president had blockages in three coronary arteries.
After the procedure, Ganguly had an "uneventful night" in the hospital on Saturday, had light dinner and is "presently afebrile". Ganguly also tested negative for COVID-19 and underwent routine scans earlier in the day.
Wishes have been pouring in for Ganguly from across the globe as the news of the former skipper suffering a
heart attack sent shockwaves.
Earlier on Sunday, Woodlands Hospital CEO Dr. Rupali Basu, speaking to Sports Today, said Ganguly is doing "absolutely fine" and there is no health risk to the former captain.
"He's doing absolutely fine, I met him this morning and spoke to him. He has his wife Dona, brother Snehasish and his wife beside him. He was spending time with them, he just had breakfast at the time when I met him," Dr. Basu said.
"He's doing fine, looking fine, maybe a bit tired from the way I would normally see him. I don't think there is any risk on his health at all at the moment."
Dr. Basu also shed light on the further course of treatment while saying that Ganguly will be able to return to active life in another 3-4 weeks.
"I don't think we are considering surgery at the moment because of his young age and the advancement of angioplasty. But we are taking expert opinions from the best cardiologists in the country and in the world and then we will have to take a call about what to do with the 2 blocked arteries and once that is done, another 3-4 weeks of resting and he should be back to his active life and that's what we want for Dada to be back to his active life," Dr. Basu said.
