Punjab Kings opening batter Prabhsimran Singh scored his maiden IPL century to help his side register 167 for 7 in the first innings in their clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The 22-year-old scored 103 runs off 65 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and six maximums, in what was a stand-alone knock against DC in New Delhi.
At the start of the first innings, Prabhsimran watched on from the non-striker’s end as PBKS lost their captain Shikhar Dhawan early in their innings. He let loose in the third over, smashing DC pacer Khaleel Ahmed for two boundaries.
However, wickets kept falling around him as Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma failed to fire against DC. Following the quick fall of wickets, Prabhsimran settled the PBKS innings alongside Sam Curran.
He then took on Australia pace-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in the 11th over, smashing him for two back-to-back sixes and a four. He kept the scoreboard
ticking, hitting Kuldeep Yadav and Praveen Dubey for sixes in the 15th and 16th over respectively.
Prabhsimran went after Kuldeep once again, this time hammering the India spinner for a four and a six in the 17th over. He brought up his century in great fashion, hitting Khaleel for a boundary at backward point. This was Prabhsimran’s maiden century in the IPL having broken into the starting XI of PBKS this season.
In fact, he became just the sixth Indian batter to score a century for the Punjab-based franchise. He is also just the 12th batter to hit a hundred for PBKS. Before him KL Rahul (twice), Hashim Amla (twice), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene, Adam Gilchrist, Shaun Marsh, David Miller, Wriddhiman Saha, and Paul Valthaty had scored ton for Punjab.
Prabhsimran’s knock helped PBKS post 167 for 7 on the scoreboard in the first innings. A win against DC will be crucial for PBKS in their push for a spot in the IPL 2023 play-offs.
