Ahead of the new PSL season, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been appointed as the head coach of Quetta Gladiators.
This marks a significant shift in the team's coaching structure, with Moin Khan, who has been the head coach since the team's inception, moving up to become the team director.
Watson is no stranger to the Gladiators, having played for them from 2018 to 2020, and was instrumental in their 2019 PSL victory, earning the Player of the Tournament title for his outstanding performance.
Watson's cricketing journey has seen him transition from player to coach, previously serving as an assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His leadership skills and extensive experience are
expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Gladiators, who have not qualified for the playoffs in the last four seasons.
The team owner, Nadeem Omar, expressed confidence in Watson's ability to lead the team to new heights and restore their former glory.
"Shane has been an integral part of the Quetta Gladiators success in the initial seasons of the country's premier league before he took retirement and there has been no better choice than him to coach the side and bring back the glory days which we have been renowned for. I wish him all the best for his new role and believe in his capabilities to take Quetta Gladiators to new heights," said Omar.
Watson was let go by DC in June of this year, after a poor IPL campaign this year.
