Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been dealt a major blow as star Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna was ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Prasidh has a stress fracture in his back and will be out of commission for a few months.
Prasidh joined the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 mega-auction for a whopping Rs 10 crore and picked 19 wickets in 17 matches last season. However, Prasidh has not played competitive cricket since the India tour of Zimbabwe last year.
"We are doing everything possible to support and aid Prasidh's recovery process from injury, and hope to see him steaming in soon," Rajasthan Royals said in a statement.
"Our coaching staff has been actively identifying and developing pacers from our trials and preparatory camps, as we work towards a decision on Prasidh's
replacement.
"Unfortunately, after consulting the medical staff and him, it was decided that he would not be able to take part in IPL 2023. Be back soon, Skiddy," the statement further read.
Prasidh had become a regular member of the ODI team despite the absence of regulars, and his latest injury may jeopardize his chances of competing in the 2023 World Cup. He was also named to the Test squad in 2021 but did make his debut.
Prasidh was supposed to play for India A in unofficial Test matches against New Zealand A last year, but he was unable to do so. He was out for the entire 2022/23 domestic season. He is recovering from a back injury and should be ready for the start of the next season.
The Rajasthan Royals, led by Sanju Samson, are expected to announce the pacer's replacement soon. They will kick off their IPL 2023 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
