India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is set to miss the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia next month as the star player will undergo major knee surgery, which is expected to keep him out of action for an "indefinite period of time".
The 33-year-old Jadeja, who played two group matches at the Asia Cup against Pakistan and Hong Kong, was ruled out of the continental tournament after suffering a right knee injury. The all-rounder was replaced by standby Axar Patel in the India squad at the Asia Cup and is currently under the
supervision of the BCCI medical team.
Jadeja's absence will be a big blow to Rohit Sharma-led India at the T20 World Cup 2022 as he provides a balance with his all-round abilities.
"Jadeja's right knee injury is pretty serious. He is supposed to undergo a major knee surgery and will be out of action for indefinite period of time. At this point, if one goes by the assessment of the NCA's medical team, one can't put a timeline on his imminent international comeback," a senior BCCI official told PTI news agency.
