South African AB De Villiers powered Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 17-run win over Kings Eleven Punjab at Bengaluru last night. Put in to bat, Bangalore posted 202 for 4 riding on De Villiers' 44-ball 82 not out, comprising 3 fours and 7 sixes.
In reply, Punjab managed to make 185 for 7 in the alloted 20 overs, falling short by 17 runs. Pacer Umesh Yadav bagged the maximum of three wickets for the hosts.
De Villiers was named man of the match.
The win was Bangalore's
third consecutive after seven straight defeats, and though they are seventh in the eight-team points table, they are still in the race for a place in the play-offs.
The table is led by defending champions Chennai Super Kings, followed by Delhi Capitals at the second spot and Mumbai Indians at third.
Today, sixth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders will play rock bottom side Rajasthan Royals at Kolkata at 8 PM.
