Former Royal Challengers Bangalore star AB de Villiers feels that the Bangalore-based team can win multiple Indian Premier Leagues if they can bag their first. Speaking to Star Sports, de Villiers said that T20 cricket is a bit of a gamble and he hopes that luck can be on RCB's side in the next tournaments.
"It's been how many seasons now? Quite a few, 14 or 15 or whatever. So, they would love to break the shackles. I think if RCB wins this one then, they'll probably win two, three, four quickly but let's wait and see what happens, T20 cricket is a bit of a gamble sometimes, anything can happen. Especially knockout games, but hopefully RCB's turn is around the corner,” said de Villiers in a Star Sports video.
The player was recently in
India to speak to the Bangalore team authorities about a possible role in the 2023 edition of the tournament. De Villiers quit the Indian Premier League while at the RCB, playing 11 years for the franchise. Widely known as one of the best talents of his generation, de Villiers had tweeted after his retirement that he missed the action.
Earlier this year, de Villiers revealed that he will return to the RCB in some capacity. It is expected that he will take up a consultants role and not a playing one. The franchise would hope for de Villiers' inputs to break the trophy jinx. RCB are one of the three original teams in the Indian Premier League that has not won the IPL. Last season, RCB made it to the playoffs of the tournament but were knocked out by Rajasthan Royals.
