The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced India's squad for their tour to South Africa on Thursday, November 30. India's senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma requested to be rested from the white ball leg of the tour and were only included in the red ball squad for the tour.
Former India cricketer and ex-BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly backed the two senior players to play in the T20 World Cup 2024 despite taking a break from the T20Is and ODIs series against South Africa. While speaking to the reporters in Kolkata,
Ganguly hailed Sharma and Kohli as an integral part of Indian cricket and heaped praise on their performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023.
"You saw in the World Cup, how well Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma played. They are absolutely integral and important part of Indian cricket. World Cups are different from bilateral series because the pressure are different. They have been exceptional in the World Cup and hopefully six-seven months down the line in the West Indies they will be at their best again," said Ganguly.
