Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma added a special feather to T20 captaincy when he took the field in his team's first game of IPL 2023. Sharma's Mumbai face Faf du Plessis Royal Challengers Bangalore in their tournament opener at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The stylish opening batter has already led his IPL franchise to a record five IPL titles.

Meanwhile, Sharma registered a special 200 in the match against RCB. Rohit Sharma became the third player in the history of the T20 format to captain in 200 matches. He joins an elite list that features only two players- MS Dhoni and Daren Sammy. Dhoni has led five teams, including CSK and India in T20s, while Sammy has captained in 208 matches. Sharma has led only two teams- India and Mumbai Indians in the T20 format.

Notably, in the list of most wins as T20 captain, Sharma is on the second place, behind Dhoni. Sharma has won 122 T20 games, while Dhoni has won 179 games. Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles since 2013. He was given the captaincy hat mid-season in 2013 and led them to the maiden IPL title. Sharma then made his team victorious in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Rohit is the third-leading run-scorer in IPL. He has scored 5880 runs in the tournament and is only behind Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. Both Virat Kohli and Dhawan have over 6000 runs in the Indian cash-rich league. Mumbai finished at the bottom of the table last season with 4 wins in 14 games.
