South Africa completed a remarkable comeback in the series and won it 3-2 as they beat Australia in the 5th ODI on Sunday. September 17.
South African all-rounder Marco Jansen shined with bat and ball in the final match of the series against the Aussies as the Proteas won by 122 runs. Jansen scored a quickfire 47 runs off just 23 balls, helping South Africa recover from a sluggish start and set a challenging target of 316 for Australia.
His batting prowess was not the only highlight of the day; Jansen also shone with the ball, taking an impressive five wickets for 39 runs in his eight-over spell. This was his best ODI performance to date.
Australia, in response, could only manage 193 runs before being bowled out in the 35th over. Despite their aggressive approach, they were unable to counter Jansen's bowling attack. The South African fast bowler dismissed key Australian batsmen, including David Warner and Josh Inglis, early in their innings, effectively
stalling their momentum.
The match also saw notable performances from other South African players. Aiden Markram and David Miller put together a crucial fifth-wicket partnership of 109 runs, while Andile Phehlukwayo's late onslaught, which included three sixes in the final over, pushed South Africa's total past the 300-run mark.
This victory marked a remarkable turnaround for South Africa, who had lost the first two matches of the series. However, they bounced back with three consecutive wins to clinch the series 3-2, providing a significant morale boost ahead of the upcoming World Cup in India.
Speaking after the match, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Jansen said it was nice to cash in with both bat and ball on Sunday and claimed such performances do give him confidence.
"There's a not a lot of days where you cash in both with bat and ball but to do that today was fulfilling. These types of performances give you confidence as a players," said Jansen.
