Suryakumar Yadav played a riveting innings against South Africa in the 2nd T20I match against South Africa. The India batter became the first ever India captain to hit a T20I half-century against the Proteas in South Africa. In the process, Suryakumar beat Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record for the highest score made by an India captain in a T20I match in the SA.
Suryakumar Yadav's innings also helped India to reach their third-highest T20I innings total vs South Africa - 180/7 - while playing in Gqeberha on December 12, Tuesday. Yadav came into bat when India had lost both their openers for duck and played a counter-attacking innings to get India out of
trouble. Suryakumar found support from Tilak Varma and then Rinku Singh, who kept the runs flowing despite the loss of wickets at regular intervals.
Yadav was back at his 360-degree best, hitting 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. The India captain drew praise from Sunil Gavaskar for not letting the burden of captaincy affect his batting.
This was not the only record that Suryakumar Yadav got his hands on in the evening. Yadav also became the joint second-fastest batter to 2000 T20I runs - matching India legend Virat Kohli.
Yadav is currently the No. 1 batter in T20I cricket and already has three T20I hundreds to his name.
