The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday, December 6, named Shaheen Shah Afridi, Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid as the three nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month award in November.
Buttler and Rashid were a part of the England team that won the T20 World Cup in Australia last month. The Three Lions defeated Pakistan in the final at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Buttler became the second after Paul Collingwood to lead the British team to glory in the history of the T20 World Cup. Buttler also played a handy knock in the semi-final where England beat Rohit Sharma’s India by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval.
Buttler scored 207 runs in T20Is in November with two half-centuries against India and New Zealand. He also played a handy
knock on a difficult pitch to bat in the final against Babar Azam’s Pakistan.
Rashid, on the other hand, couldn’t pick up a single wicket in England’s first three matches of the Super 12 in the World Cup. However, the leg-spinner made amends by winning the Player of the Match award against Sri Lanka, where he finished with impressive figures of 4-0-16-1.
As far as Shaheen is concerned, he took his time to get going after returning from injury, but once he found his rhythm, there was no stopping him. The left-arm seamer won the Player of the Match award against Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh, where he had figures of 4/22.
Shaheen was Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 11 scalps at an economy rate of 6.15 and an average of 14.09.
