Making an international comeback, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan bagged 4/8 in the 1st ODI against West Indies, on Wednesday, in Dhaka. Ace pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who dismissed both the openers within the powerplay, crumbled the top order of an inexperienced West Indies side.
Debutant Hasan Mahmud bagged 3 wickets for Bangladesh while Shakib dismissed Alzarri Joseph, as the last wicket, to restrict the visitors for a total of just 122 runs.
Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo, who had great expectations with the balance in the bowling, was completely matched by the Bangladesh seamers. Both the Bangladesh pacers, Mustafizur
(2/20) and debutant Hasan Mahmud (3/28) impressed with the ball by dismantling the West Indies.
West Indies had as many as 6 players making an ODI debut on Wednesday, at the Sher-e-Bangla. Despite debutant Akeal Hosein’s strong efforts with the ball, 3/26 including the wicket of Shakib and Liton Das, Bangladesh chased down the 123-run target with 6 wickets and 97 balls in hand.
Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal (44 off 69) gave a strong start to the chase with Mushfiqur Rahim (19 n.o. off 31) saw the team to a victory. The hosts have taken a lead of 1-0 the 3-match ODI series. The second ODI match will be played on Friday, January 22, at the same venue.
