Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was unhappy after Pakistan lost to Zimbabwe by one run in the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match on Thursday, October 27 at the Perth Stadium.
Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, haven't had the best of runs in the tournament thus far. They had every chance of winning their first game against India, but Virat Kohli's heroics denied them a victory.
Mohammad Nawaz had failed to defend 16 runs in the last over after conceding sixes, fours, no balls and wides in a chaotic last over. Ravi Ashwin hit Nawaz down the ground for a four and helped the Men in Blue over the finish line.
After the heartbreaking loss, Pakistan again lost to Zimbabwe and are now in a position to get knocked out of the tournament.
After opting to bat first, Zimbabwe scored 130 for the loss of eight wickets.
Mohammad Wasim Jr was the standout bowler after he picked up four wickets for 24 runs in four overs. Shadab Khan also performed exceptionally after he picked up three wickets for 23 runs.
Thereafter, Pakistan finished with 129 for eight in 20 overs. Shan Masood scored 44 runs off 38 balls with three fours, but his efforts went in vain.
After the loss, a number of former Pakistan cricketers were heartbroken. Shoaib called the defeat embarrassing. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "That's embarrassing, to be most polite!"
Another former Pakistan cricketer, Wasim Akram, was shocked after Pakistan lost. “What a shocker,” he wrote.
