India cricketer Shreyas Iyer will undergo surgery on his shoulder on April 8 and will need at least 5 months to recover.
Iyer had hurt his left shoulder while fielding during England's run chase. Iyer dislocated his shoulder after diving to save a run in the 8th over bowled by Shardul Thakur.
He was treated on the field by the Indian team physiotherapist before being taken off the field as he couldn't tolerate the pain
anymore. Iyer did not take any further part in the match and was sent for scans.
Iyer will also miss the Indian Premier League 2021 which starts next month. Delhi Capitals will have to look for a captain for their side in Iyer's absence this season.
"Not just the IPL (2021), I think Shreyas will take about 4-5 months for recovery. So a realistic assessment will be the home T20 series against New Zealand and South Africa in September.
