Former India captain Sourav Ganguly wanted to continue as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president but he was told by the top brass of the board that there was no precedence of giving a second term to the board president. Ganguly was in Mumbai on Monday evening for an internal BCCI meeting which took place ahead of the elections, scheduled for October 18.
Instead, Sourav Ganguly was offered the role of the Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman, which is currently
held by Brijesh Patel but the former captain denied the offer, according to news agency Press Trust of India. Ganguly had been in New Delhi last week to discuss his future with the BCCI stakeholders.
"Sourav was offered IPL chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position," the news agency quoted a BCCI source as saying.
