Johannesburg: South Africa beat India by 7 wickets in the second Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg last night to level the three-match series 1-1. Chasing the victory target of 240 runs set by India, South Africa achieved the target in 67.4 overs.
They made 243 for the loss of 3 wickets. South Africa skipper Dean Elgar was the hero for the home team for his unbeaten 96-run knock. He was declared player of the match.
For India, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, and Ravichandran Ashwin picked one wicket each. The third and final Test begins in Cape Town from January
11.
Earlier yesterday, on day three with the help of Cheteshwar Pujara's 53 and Ajinkya Rahane's 58, Men in Blue scored 266 runs in their second innings. Hanuma Vihari remained not out at 40.
On day two, South Africa were bowled out for 229 in their first innings after Shardul Thakur returned with the magnificent figures of 7 for 61. India were bowled out for 202 in their first innings.
India had won the opening Test beating the hosts by 113 runs in Centurion to take a 1-0 lead in the three-test match series.
