Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga pulled out of the match against Gujarat Titans due to personal reasons. Hasaranga, who has been a key performer with the ball for Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League, will be missing in the key clash against GT.
Skipper Sanju Samson informed the fans of the decision on Wednesday, April 9, and announced that Afghanistan seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi would be replacing the Sri Lankan star. Hasaranga was terrific for Rajasthan in their match against Chennai Super Kings, where he picked up 4 wickets to derail the CSK batting unit.
On the day, Rajasthan won the toss and opted to bowl first against Gujarat Titans, who are formidable at home and also have a good record against
the franchise. Samson spoke about carrying the momentum from the last two games. Rajasthan have beaten CSK and Punjab Kings in back-to-back matches and currently stand at 7th position in the league table with 2 wins and 2 losses before the GT game.
"It is a very new team, new guys in the squad. We retained six guys, but it is still a new team. We took time to gel together and understand our roles. The wicket looks really good and will stay true. Hasaranga misses out due to personal reasons, and Farooqi comes in," Samson said at the toss.
Earlier in the season, Gujarat Titans fast bowler Kagiso Rabada had to leave the competition in the first week due to undisclosed reasons. It is expected that Rabada will miss the rest of the season.
