Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by six wickets in T20 World Cup at Brisbane

Brisbane: Sri Lanka kept their Twenty20 World Cup hopes alive with a confortable six-wicket win over Afghanistan at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Dhananjaya de Silva scored 66 as Sri Lanka cruised to 148-4 with nine balls remaining after Afghanistan had made 144-8 with Wanindu Hasaranga taking 3-13

Dhananjaya produced a match-winning performance and remained unbeaten at 66. Wanindu Hasaranga also played a massive role in Sri Lanka's win. Well, the Lankan Lions are still in the hunt for a place in the semi-finals with this convincing victory over Afghanistan

Earlier, Afghanistan had set a target of 145 runs vs Sri Lanka in their T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 Stage fixture, at The Gabba in Brisbane, on Tuesday. The Afghans posted 144/8 in 20 overs, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz registered 28 runs off 24 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga took three wickets for Sri Lanka and Lahiru Kumara bagged two. 

The Dasun Shanaka-led side are level on points with the Afghans and will be hoping for a win as the team which loses this match is almost guaranteed to miss out on the next round. Also, winning the match could miss out on having any impact, with both sides needing to rely on luck for qualifying.
