Dubai: In Asia Cup T20 cricket, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by two wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Group B match last night. Chasing a total of 184, Sri Lanka held their nerves to reach the target in 19.2 overs for the loss of eight wickets against Bangladesh and qualified for the Super Fours at the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka's chase was boosted by opener Kusal Mendis' 60 and skipper Dasin Shanaka's 45. Kusal Mendis was adjudged Player of the Match. For Bangladesh, Ebadot Hossain took three wickets while Taskin Ahmed claimed two wickets.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field. Batting
first, Bangladesh managed to post a total of 183 for seven in the stipulated twenty overs. For Bangladesh, Afif Hossain who scored 39 was the top scorer. For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne took two wickets each while Dilshan Madushanka, Maheesh Theekshana and Asitha Fernando claimed a wicket each.
Meanwhile, the do-or-die fixture between Pakistan and Hong Kong in Group A is slated to be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium at 7:30 pm IST today. So far on the international stage, Hong Kong has never faced Pakistan in the T20Is. Both teams will meet for the first time in today’s match.
